The Science Research Tower is the planned second phase of the University of Waterloo new Science Complex, a 215,000 square foot learning and discovery space, which is designed to foster inquisitiveness and scientific reasoning skills, as well as equip University of Waterloo science students with crucial lab-bench competence.

Specifically, the Research Tower will provide 40,000 square feet of additional dedicated lab space for researchers to solve persistent problems and inspire new ways of doing things, from revolutionizing drug delivery to managing acid mine drainage. It will also foster entrepreneurship through Velocity Science, an incubator space dedicated to physical science and life science startups. Young entrepreneurs will find the wet labs, high-tech equipment and the mentoring they need to get their ideas and projects off the ground and into the marketplace. The new building will also supply space for unique University of Waterloo programs such as Bio-based Chemistry, a joint Biotechnology/ Economics program, as well as Science and Business – all intended to enable students to break new scientific ground and drive economic prosperity.
